About the QR Code Scanner

Not every QR code is in front of a phone camera. Some arrive as screenshots, email attachments or images on a website. This scanner reads a QR code from an image file or from your clipboard, decodes it in your browser, and shows you exactly what it contains before you open anything, which is also a safe way to check where a suspicious code leads.

What you can do

• Drop or choose an image that contains a QR code.
• Paste a screenshot directly from your clipboard with Ctrl+V or Cmd+V.
• Read the decoded text in full and copy it with one click.
• Open the link from the result when the code holds a web address.

When it works best

• Reading a code on your own screen, such as a two-factor setup code or a ticket in an email.
• Checking what a QR code on a parking meter or flyer really points to before visiting it.
• Pulling the Wi-Fi details or contact card out of a code someone sent you as a picture.

Things to know

• Decoding is done in the browser, so screenshots containing private codes are not uploaded.
• It reads image files only; there is no live camera mode.
• Only one code is read per image. Crop busy pictures with Crop Image so the code fills most of the frame.
• Blurry, tiny or heavily stylised codes may not decode. Barcodes other than QR, such as EAN or Code 128, are not supported.
